Friday 18 July: footrace: 9.75 seconds!
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 11:02.Today we had our final challenges of this tournament, the tactical challenges. These consist out of three challenges, the footrace, obstacle avoidance and the dribble. Because we can't walk with TUlip we brought flame with us. Flame can already walk but only in a straight line. So we only participated in the footrace.Flame isn't always stable and a needs to be catched if it falls. But you're not allowed to stand in the field, so that could be a problem. If flame did fall it would be seriously damaged so we were not sure if could do the challenge at all. However we solved the problem by putting Eelko in the goal which was allowed. Martijn released flame and then Eelko protected it, then it was catched by Tomas. Flame walked well and with a tweak by taping some batteries on it did it in 9.75 seconds!
After the challenge we let flame walk through the conference hall which drew a large crowd. We don't know yet if flame was the fastest but it sure was crowd's favorite.

Friday 18 July: Broken encoder solved
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 08:54.As mentioned before during the making of the teamfoto one of the encoders got damaged. Because we didn't have any spare encoders this meant that the Delft TUlip couldn't stand anymore. We tried to borrow one of the other dutch team, Tech United. But soon we found out that maxon (the maker of the encoder) had an office in Suzhou. We went with a robocup guide to it and bougth a new encoder. We also showed them our maxon flag and the team foto with the maxon flag on it. In response they gave us a nice maxon bag and some caps!
Friday 18 July: third round robin automatic forfeit.
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 03:18.Today's third round robin game ended in an automatic forfeit. Most of us came out of bed early to participate in the game which should have started around 8 o'clock in the morning. But with the team not appearing we did have the field for our own to test the vision and made some good progress with it.
Thursday 17 July: Presentation of all robots
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 12:45.We realized at the last moment that there also was a presentation of all robots today so we had to rush to the field. But we where not too late, TULip did have to stand at right. But that was not because we were late but because the stability can be sometimes unreliable.
Thursday 17 July: Team foto
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 12:00.Thursday 17 July: No games today
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 03:55.Today there are no games for us on the program; the next game will be on Friday. So we're able to continue working on the robots. We are working to make the robot stand on one leg and to make a split. Also we are working on the control software of the arms. We want to give TUlip some more emotion by making him lift his arms when there is scored.
Friday we have two games, another penalty challenge and the walk challenge.
Wednesday 16 July: Second game
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 18:19.Because our opponent fell several times or shot the ball out off the field the second game ended in 0-0.
Wednesday 16 July: First game
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 13:34.Although our robot is still not really finished we had to play the first game today. We just finished the stability controls this morning. And beause of these problems we haven't worked on walking yet. So basicly all the robot could do was to stand still. Because the first challenge was keeping and taking penalties we were able to participate. But only with keeping and withouth moving. And to make things even worse the first game was against the very experienced Team Osaka. Although TULip couldn't move it was able to block one penalty. And their robot had problems too so they only scored 3 of the 5 penalties.
Wednesday 16 July: What if you combine robots with a little dance?
Submitted by Lennart Middelplaats on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 10:44.Then you get Robocup robot dance. We think it's very good that robotbuilding is being promoted under kids. However the robot dance is being held in the same hall where we have our "paddock" we are forced to enjoy the extremely loud music too. But it is an interesting league of robocup with the robots dancing with the people.
